The Coast Guard’s general officer commissioning program, known as Officer Candidate School (OCS), is available to civilians, former service members, and enlisted Coast Guard personnel. You must submit all necessary application materials by January 29 of the year of entrance (or October 15 of the year before entering for Early Action consideration) in order to be considered for admission.


You may apply to the Coast Guard Academy if you have the following

  • If you are a U.S. citizen with good moral character.
  • Single and not in debt or have children.
  • 17 to 22 years old as of July 1st, the year of entrance.
  • A GED recipient or recent high school graduate (or will be prior to entrance).

  • The professors whose names, email addresses, and phone numbers you will be recommending.

SAT/ACT Scores

To be considered for Early Action, individuals must submit a minimum of one set of SAT or ACT results by November 1.

All applicants, including those submitting an Early Action application, who have completed all other application requirements by February 1st but have not taken the SAT or ACT exam, will be evaluated for Regular Admission.

Test results can be submitted until February 15th to be taken into account for regular admission.


In order to best serve your needs and the Academy’s enrollment objectives, admissions may conduct interviews with current and potential applicants. If so, you will hear from an Admissions representative. Should you be chosen for an interview, you must take part. With everyone’s cooperation, the interview will take place in whatever format online, over the phone, or in person with the utmost importance given to everyone’s health and safety.
