Available Nursing Program
Traditional BSN
Students who have finished their two years of preparatory coursework at Texas A&M or another university are eligible to enroll in the Traditional BSN track. 120 credit hours of general education and professional nursing coursework are required of students pursuing the Traditional BSN program. Prerequisite courses in the biological, physical, and behavioral sciences as well as the humanities are offered during the first two years of the curriculum to lay the groundwork for future development in the nursing major.

Any qualified institution or university may offer the prerequisite courses for completion. The third and fourth years of the program, which consist of clinical and non-clinical nursing courses, will be completed by the students who apply for upper-level entry into the Traditional BSN program. Both the Bryan/College Station and the Round Rock campuses offer this track.
Second Degree BSN
A 15-month expedited curriculum known as the Second Degree BSN track is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing. In addition to traditional in-person instruction, the track makes use of clinical experiences, simulation exercises, group teaching, and lecture video conferencing.

RN-to-BSN
For registered nurses who already hold an associate’s degree and would like to pursue a bachelor’s degree, there is an RN-to-BSN program. In order to be eligible to apply, RN-to-BSN candidates who finished their degree through a diploma program, an LVN-to-RN or paramedic bridging program, or an RN-to-BSN program must have earned a minimum of 35 transferable credits in their program. This option is offered fully online, with full-time and part-time course loads available.
MSN-Nursing
After completing a 36-hour curriculum, graduates of the MSN-Nursing Education program are trained to use educational principles in the position of educator in a variety of patient care settings and in higher education institutions.
To fulfill the clinical requirements of NURS 653 Advanced Health Assessment and fulfill the requirements of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing for any MSN degree, students must participate in two distinct on-campus clinical experiences totaling forty-five hours. This option, which is mostly available online, enables students to further their education while juggling obligations to their families, careers, and other commitments.
MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner program
After completing a 36-hour curriculum, graduates of the MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner program are prepared to work as primary care clinicians for a variety of clientele, with an emphasis on health promotion, risk reduction, disease prevention, and illness management.
To fulfill the clinical requirements of NURS 653 Advanced Health Assessment and fulfill the requirements of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing for any MSN degree, students must participate in two distinct on-campus clinical experiences totaling forty-five hours. The bulk of the coursework for this hybrid program is offered online.
MSN-Forensic Nursing program
Graduates from this program learn how to care for both victims and offenders of traumatic incidents or criminal acts that cause trauma or death. In addition to providing medical care to their patients, they will be expected to complete a 36-hour curriculum that includes observing, identifying, gathering, and documenting forensic evidence connected to the traumatic event or criminal act for use in future civil or criminal legal actions.

How can I obtain an application?
All students at the School of Nursing are currently required to submit the NursingCAS application, and external transfer students also need to submit Apply Texas. Go to the program track page you are interested in to learn more about the requirements for admission.
Equivalents of academic qualifications
- Your transcript(s) must bear the original seal of the school or the signature of an official school representative (the Registrar, Principal, Controller of Examinations, or the Ministry of Education) in order to be deemed official.
- All international transcripts must have all original seals and signatures, as well as an English translation or credential evaluation done by an accredited agency.
- Send in your official transcript from secondary or high school. An official transcript with at least three years’ worth of completed and ongoing coursework must be received by the deadline if you are a final-year student applying.
English language requirements
- TOEFL: An i-BT minimum score of 80 is required
- IELTS: A minimum of 6.0 overall band is required for the Academic test. (The IELTS General test is not accepted by Texas A&M University.)

When will the admissions decision be communicated to applicants?
Fall applicants will get their admission decision in April, and spring applicants in October. Electronic notification is sent through NursingCAS for internal candidates or the Applicant Information System (AIS) portal. Decisions about admission and waitlist placement will not be communicated via phone or email.
FAQs (Texas A&M Nursing acceptance rate)
Is there a test of admission needed?
Applicants seeking a traditional or second-degree BSN must pass the HESI A2 Admissions Assessment Exam. Applicants pursuing an MSN or RN-to-BSN program are exempt from taking an entrance exam.
Are recommendation letters necessary?
Applications for RN-to-BSN programs must provide one professional or academic reference review, while applications for MSN programs must submit three. Reference reviews need to be turned in using the NursingCAS application. The standard and second-degree BSN tracks do not allow reference evaluations.
When are applications and necessary credentials due?
The deadlines for applying to Apply Texas and NursingCAS are listed on the track pages for each school.
Can I retake classes to get a better grade? In what way will my GPA be calculated for repeated courses?
Although a course may be repeated, the GPA will be determined using both grades received.
Are essays or personal statements required?
After all applications have been reviewed, qualified candidates will receive an invitation to take part in a written assessment and online interview via Kira Talent, a secondary assessment platform. Random behavioral or situational questions based on the Aggie Core Values will be posed to applicants.
